This year isn’t going the way I planned it.
I had high expectations for goals being crushed and dreams being fulfilled. As a life coach, I help folks find and reach their why. The beginning of a new year is like March Madness for me. Every day it’s all vision planning and list making and setting intentions and whatnot. Not only did I work with my clients to set out their plans, but I did the same for myself.
A lot of good that did.
This is the first new year that I have two children. I’m still going through postpartum healing (and embarrassed about it because I had this baby so long ago), and I’m just exhausted. All the time.
I’ve been pushing through, though. Still working. Still writing. Still momming. Everything was good until my body decided to break down on me and force me to slow down.
Two weeks ago, I had a weird virus that came on hard like the flu---while I was working at a red carpet premiere of a movie in Los Angeles. It was a scary moment for me. I was shivering uncontrollably, my body was in pain, and I was this close to going to the emergency room.
Fortunately I got better, but then last week, the same thing happened, but with breast pain. I had mastitis, an infection in my left boob.
Like, seriously? WHAT IS GOING ON?
I’m not all the way sure, but these issues are making me have to choose what’s important and eliminate what isn’t. Every decision I make goes through a “does this benefit my family or me in a way that will really improve the quality of our life?” I’m finally learning how to say no.
It’s been a week since I went on Instagram. My Facebook page gets updated every once in awhile. Twitter is automated. I work in social media, so this situation isn’t ideal, but I needed to take a break. I needed to deviate from all of my plans.
This isn’t the year I planned. There are so many things on my to-do list that just haven’t gotten done, and I’m not going to do. I don’t care anymore. My focus has changed. I’m a different woman. A different mom. This is going to be a different year for me.
